The Vibe: Khawla W Roadha

The Khawla W Roadha fashion label was launched earlier this year by Khawla and Roadha bin Khedia. Their confident and quirky style has seen their brand quickly establish itself on the Dubai fashion scene

We both knew that we wanted to design from an early age. We grew up in a household full of style inspirations and our mother, who ran her own fashion boutique, was a muse to us. She is the reason we launched the line in the first place

For several years we have been making our own clothes. Family, friends and people started asking us where we got them from and so we decided to take our passion forward and launch the new prêt-à-porter line to serve modern fashion-conscious women

Our grandmother is a big influence. For our Ramadan Collection she gave us lots of ideas such as putting a modern twist on traditional fabrics. The names of the fabrics were used as a print motif on the back of the t-shirts and the dresses. Every collection is different from the others but retains our identity. Dolls Collection, made from pure silk crêpe de chine, consists of 35 dresses that are both fun and classy. The dresses were accentuated with very soft yet sophisticated embroidery; appliqués of vintage-dressed dolls on every piece. Meanwhile, Ramadan is a sporty ready-to-wear collection

Art Deco dolls from the 1920s and 1930s inspired our Dolls Collection. We wanted to bring a fresh definition to fashion with a vibrant and colourful style. The dolls represent different personalities, which is why they are all hand-embroidered onto the dresses, and each one is unique

We complement each other. Roadha comes up with colours and concepts and Khawla works more on the style and cut of the outfit. Alone we wouldn’t be able to complete our collections. The fact that we are sisters and share the same hobby allowed us to get closer
and think as one

Our dresses are currently stocked in five boutiques in Dubai and our aim is to show in more boutiques across the UAE. In the future we hope to expand internationally

The UAE is cosmopolitan and we think that alone makes it an interesting place to be. There are a lot of great local designers to be inspired by, too
