Dubai boutique O’de Rose is the visionary creation of cousins Nadine Khoury, Mimi Shakh-ashir and Dania Attallah. They champion chic reworkings of traditional Arabic art and design, with a focus on social responsibility. Nadine shares the inspiration behind the emporium
I admire the heritage and craftsmanship prevalent in the works of regional artists and easily fall in love with pieces I encounter in my travels. With O’de Rose, I work to showcase the variety of Arabic-inspired art and the Middle Eastern talent on offer
When I moved from New York to Dubai in 2008 I looked beyond the superlatives and scratched beneath the surface of this great city. I sensed that Dubai had become the artistic and cultural hub of the region
We offer uniqe products that feature Arabic heritage with a modern twist. These hand-picked products each use intricate detail and superb craftsmanship to tell unique stories, for example that of the talented local Zukrf label
Part of our mission is to give back to the community. We have worked with SOUGHA, a social enterprise launched by the Khalifa Fund, to offer local artisans a platform to showcase their creations. We also encourage craftspeople from disadvantaged groups to use traditional skills to make a living. We work with Lebanese group Beit Chabab, which supports the disabled, and seeks to preserve Middle Eastern heritage
We ran an initiative last year enabling emerging Emirati designers to promote their art via pop-up-shops. It was a huge success and will run again in 2014.
