How Loco’Motion is using cinema to change the world

Hollywood blockbusters step aside: thousands of people are flocking to local screenings to watch Loco’Motion’s powerful social films. Founder Vikas Punjabi tells Vision about the transformational power of cinema

“Films are created to be able to sell,” says Dubai-based entrepreneur Vikas Punjabi, “I understand that from a commercial perspective, but why are we not using such a powerful tool to improve society, rather than just entertain society?”

In 2013, Punjabi founded Loco’Motion, a social enterprise that screens films with powerful messages about societal issues ranging from violence against women to climate change. Since its inception, the company has drawn thousands of viewers to its screenings, taking significant steps to “improve society”. In an exclusive video interview, Punjabi tells Vision about the growth of this social start-up.
